Maar niet iedereen kan lichamelijk vasten. Voor mensen die vanwege hun gezondheid of leeftijd blijvend niet kunnen vasten, kent de islam de Fidye. In plaats van te vasten doneren zij geld, zodat een mens in nood een maaltijd krijgt.
